Day in the life of a care home
Care Home News will generally stick to news articles and social policy impacting on care homes in the UK, but this excellent article deserves wider attention. The guardian journalist paints an insightful if poignant picture of life in a care home, without the sensationalism or demand for a ‘story’ that the media so often needs to show interest.
The article is sombre and arguably dwells too much on the negative (where are the residents liberated from struggles of trying to look after themselves). This angle seems to be in the service of a wider argument that society must not forget those of us who live this way.
A more glaring problem is that the article does not adequately highlight the differences between care homes with and without nursing – most care homes are in better health and enjoy more varied days than described here.
These reservations aside, it is an excellent and arguably important article.
