DoH Consults on prevention and control of infections in care homes

The Department of Health is consulting on new guidance which required change due to provisions of the Health and Social Care act and setting up of the Care Quality Commission. The proposed changes impact care homes by changing the criteria that will be used by CQC to assess the ‘cleanliness and infection control’ through the inspection regime.

The doh says:

“We are consulting on two separate but linked publications related to the introduction of a new registration framework for all providers of regulated activities in health care and adult social care in England. The ‘Code of Practice and its related guidance’ will apply to all providers of health and adult social care and covers the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections. The document ‘Prevention and control of infections in care homes’ provides practical advice for providers of adult social care.”

The consultation ends 6th November
